Juicing for Health
Why Juice?
Whole forms of fresh produce are the best for your body, but sometimes you just might not have the time to eat a plate of mixed veggies. If you are ill or under stress and needing more energy, juicing may be just the boost you need! Juicing is an ideal way to nourish your body with the important nutrients found in fresh fruits and vegetables. Juicing is also a great way to get nutrients into kids who tend to push the veggies off their plates. Tip: Always try to buy organic fruits and vegetables.
What’s the difference between juice and a smoothie?
Juice is juiced with a juicer! A juicing machine separates the pulp (aka. insoluble fiber) from the liquid. You discard the pulp and drink the juice. You will still get fiber in the form of soluble fiber.
A smoothie is made in a blender, not juiced. A smoothie retains the insoluble and soluble fiber. Some people like the pulp (insoluble fiber), but other people find it more difficult to drink – your personal preference!
What are the benefits of the different types of fiber?
Insoluble fiber gives more bulk to your stools and helps to keep foods moving through your gut. Folks who are constipated really benefit from more insoluble fiber.
Soluble fiber (like gums and pectins) partially dissolves in the liquid in your gut and forms a type of gel. This gel helps in the absorption of digestive bile, which then helps to lower the LDL (the bad) cholesterol in your body. Soluble fiber can also help to slow the absorption of your blood sugar, which results in less craving for more sugar!
So now that you know what juicing is and some of the benefits of juicing for health, it’s time to get juicing!
